A PRESTWICH primary school continues to be 'good', according to inspectors.

A team from Ofsted awarded the rating after visiting Butterstile Primary School, in School Grove, for a short inspection on January 16.

The school received the same rating at its last inspection back in November 2013.

Inspectors reported that the school's leadership team had 'maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection.'

They added: "Butterstile is a caring, welcoming school in which pupils thrive. It is inclusive.

"For example, when I entered classrooms, I was instantly struck by how well pupils worked together busily and happily, regardless of any gender or ethnicity differences."

It was also reported that safeguarding is a high priority at the school, and that 'staff are tenacious and persistent in making sure that pupils are safe'.

In a letter to the school, lead inspector Allan Torr praised leaders for having 'successfully raised pupils’ aspirations and their achievement' over the last three years.

They were, however, told that in order to improve further they must 'broaden the curriculum so that it develops pupils’ historical skills and widens their knowledge of important women in history' and 'improve pupils’ ability to read for meaning and to make sure that pupils make faster progress between reception and year two'.

The school's headteacher, Clare Salmon, said: "We are very proud of the report, as it is a true reflection of all the hard work and dedication of the pupils, parents, staff, governors and partners - a real team approach".

Last year, the school appeared alongside Prime Minister Theresa May in the 2016/17 Parliamentary Review.

The review listed Butterstile as one of the top 12 schools in the region and praised it for its "clear strategy, value-adding partnerships, and accountability at every level."
