Besses Boys Band has got a new set of mutes to help it compete in at the North West Regional Brass Band Championships later this month.

Musical Director, James Holt said: “The chosen test piece for this year, Ex Terra Lucem by Jonathan Bates, requires a great variety of sound colours and dynamics, so mutes are essential in achieving the required sound."

The band received sponsorship from Silletts Funeral Service, Radcliffe Rotary Club, Lords of Middleton butchers, and Helen’s Angels Performing Arts Academy to enable the Simister-based band to purchase a set of specialist mutes.

Besses Boys Band Vice Chairman, Bradley Hirst commented: "The support we receive from local businesses in our community is fantastic.

"As a self-funded organisation, the generous donations and sponsorship we receive really does make a difference."
