They decided to embark upon the journey to celebrate the introduction of the government's new National Bus Travel Concession scheme which allows people aged 60 and over and disabled people to travel for free on local buses throughout the country, from 9.30am to 11pm on weekdays and all day on weekends and Bank Holidays.
The travellers have passed the time with their favourite hobby, the Guardian crossword. To their delight, April 1's crossword included "national bus pass." They have also been interviewed by the BBC's Jeremy Vine for his Radio 2 lunch time show.
So far the pair have enjoyed their journey. In their blog they wrote: "Both our buses were exactly on time, clean and comfortable. The only unpleasant thing was Alnwick bus station which ws cold and had no proper waiting rooms or toilets."
