AN elderly couple were taken to hospital after their car flipped onto its roof following a crash in Radcliffe.

The crash, which involved a blue Mazda MX5 and a blue Peugeot, happened at about 7.30pm in Ainsworth  Road.

The Mazda, containing an 72-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman, flipped onto its roof after colliding with the Peugeot.

The couple have been taken to hospital with back and rib injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

It is not yet known which hospital they have been taken to.

The couple travelling in the Peugeot, believed to be in their 50s, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Everyone involved in the crash was conscious and breathing when emergency services arrived and nobody was trapped in their vehicle.

Both vehicles have been written off.

Firefighters from Bury and Whitefield attended the scene, along with police and paramedics.

Ainsworth Road was closed off for an hour in both directions while investigations were carried out.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "This crash involved two vehicles with four casualties, two in each vehicle.

"Everybody was conscious and breathing when we got there and there are not believed to be any life threatening or life changing injuries to any parties."

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
