AN AMBITIOUS Radcliffe teenager is hoping she will not just be a model pupil.

For hard-working Bury College student Tamara Haslam is balancing her commitment to the classroom, where she is studying a BTEC in public services, with competing in the prestigious Miss England 2015 contest.

The 17-year-old, of Meadowcroft, has clinched a place in the semi finals of the contest and wants people to vote her into next June's final.

"I am concentrating on my studies while preparing for the contest by volunteering at Grundy Day Centre in Bury and encouraging friends on Facebook to vote for me," said Tamara.

She added: "Next summer would be amazing if I make it through to the final rounds. It will be great experience for me."

Miss England’s winner will bag £30,000 worth of prizes, including a luxury holiday and a place in the Miss World competition.

Since 2011, Miss England has raised £550,000 for charities helping disadvantaged children.

People can vote before November 30 by texting MISS ENGH14 to 63333 or calling 0901 3078571 and pressing 14 when prompted.

Text votes costs 50p while landline votes cost 52p plus the standard network charge.
