THE third meeting of a new group with bold plans to promote Radcliffe’s historic heritage was met with enthusiasm.

The Radcliffe Heritage Society, which formed in December, gathered together at Radcliffe Library on Monday (February 9).

Attendees discussed forming a committee and creating a constitution for the group, as well as planning future projects.

The society was formed after library assistant Julie Taylor noticed the 'I Grew Up in Radcliffe' Facebook page, which has more than 3,000 members, was a hub for sharing archive images and stories about the town’s history.

Determined to bring memories of Radcliffe’s history off the screen and into the town, the society was formed and Julie is now assisting with plans to turn the library’s large print area into a heritage room.

This will bring together a wealth of information, research and images currently in the library and collected by keen historians from the town.

It is also hoped some artefacts relating to Radcliffe which are currently kept in storage at Bury Art Museum will be displayed here.

Julie said: “We want this to eventually be a mini-museum full of useful information – something the whole town can get involved in.”

The next meeting will be held at Radcliffe Library on March 9 between 6pm and 7pm.
