ORGANISERS of the 50th Radcliffe Carnival have issued an urgent appeal for more volunteers to come forward and help with the parade.

The carnival, which takes place over the weekend of June 6 and 7, will see residents enjoy a fun-packed weekend with a ‘back in time’ theme.

Volunteers are needed to help escort the parade, which will travel through the town centre on the Saturday afternoon, and assist with road closures.

Carnival committee chairman Andrew Clarkson said: “We are in need of a few more volunteers to help with the road closures on the day and the marshalling of the parade.

“If we could get around 20 more, then we would be in great shape and very much appreciate it.

“We want everyone to really get in the mood and join in with the ‘back in time’ theme, even if it’s just by doing something as simple as wearing a fancy hat.

“This parade belongs to the people of Radcliffe and they can only get the most out of it if they really throw themselves in.”

The parade will move off from Red Bank Field at 2pm and will spend around two hours moving through the town.

Among the other attractions on the Saturday at the Red Bank Field are a funfair, miniature steam railway, and a children’s assault course.

The carnival’s 50th anniversary festivities will also include musical entertainment on the Sunday from the Tower FM roadshow.

Also featuring in the gala celebrations will be a giant car boot sale and vintage car rally, as well as a fun run on the Outwood Trail.

The carnival programme is on sale locally, priced at £1, which includes competitions to win an iPad Mini and a meal at the Italia Mia restaurant.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up in retro costumes throughout the weekend.

There is still time to enter the parade which is free or book a stall on the field.
