A RADCLIFFE businessman who has helped raise £300,000 for charity has lived up his "incredible" reputation during a charity run.

Peter Broude got out the green bodypaint and took on a 10km run dressed as the Incredible Hulk.

The 60-year-old completed the Great Manchester Run for the 11th time last month as part of his long-standing efforts to pay tribute to his late son, Robert.

Robert, of Scholes Lane, Prestwich, was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 aged just 17 and was treated at The Christie in Manchester.

The youngster underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy and had two major operations before losing his battle in 2004.

Since then, Robert's friends and family have been raising money for the hospital.

In 2009, they reached their £250,000 target, paving the way for a day unit to be built at the hospital in Robert's memory.

Spurred on by the extraordinary success of the appeal, Peter has continued his fundraising activities in a bid to reach £400,000 so they can kit out the unit with new equipment.

Peter, who is head of finance at Faith in Nature beauty products, based in James Street, Radcliffe, finished the run in 82 minutes and admitted dressing as his alter ego proved to be a boost.

He said: "The Hulk being quite literally a larger than life character — and green — attracts a lot of attention along the way.

"I high-five all the kids and everyone waves to me.

"It's a lot of fun and it's the spirit of the event as well as the thought of the charity that gets me through."

He added: "Raising money for The Christie is incredibly important to me and we have some fantastic fundraising ideas in the pipeline. All will be revealed later this year."

The Robert Broude appeal has so far raised £308,000.
