A TENACIOUS student from Radcliffe is a cut above the rest.

Kirstin Brocklehurst, aged 17, was awarded the Level 2 Hairdressing Apprentice Award by Bury College for her outstanding effort.

The cutting edge student was invited to an award ceremony at the Elizabethan Suite in Bury town hall, where she received her trophy

The presentation evening was specifically held for catering, hairdressing, beauty and complementary therapies students.

Kirstin, of Stand Lane, started her apprenticeship at Lisa Chestney Hair Studio, in Holcombe Road, Greenmount, on June 16 last year and will be fully qualified by September.

The salon specialises in hair extensions and owner Lisa Brogan said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Kirstin. She’s gone from strength to strength and is so enthusiastic about her work.

“She’s worked hard to bring in her own clients to practice on doing cuts and blow dries.

“She has even started colouring hair and learning how to do extensions.

“She’s just amazing and very efficient, always on time and not had a day off sick since she’s been with us."

Sandra Morton, deputy principal at Bury College, said: “Apprenticeships offer the ideal opportunity for individuals to develop their skills and gain valuable qualifications while they are working.

“The skills developed through an apprenticeship can empower young people, support their progression and make a positive impact on the business for the employer.”
