COMMUNITY spirit was in plentiful supply as residents came together to keep a Radcliffe estate clean and tidy.

The clean -up day organised by Abbey Close Tenants and Residents Association saw locals filling skips around the estate with rubbish, in an effort to avoid the fly-tipping problems of the past.

Dot Wood, the group's chairman, said: "We had a really good day. Two of the skips were full by 11 o'clock in the morning, which shows just how much we need this kind of service.

"If we don't organise having these skips here then people will leave their stuff all over the place. Over the years we have had all sorts of rubbish left out in the street and we need to get rid of it."
