A business has pledged its support for a young people's drug and alcohol charity.

Healthy Investment has named Early Break as their charity of the year.

Peter Green, chief executive of Healthy Investment, will be joining a team of seven of his staff taking part in the Big Bury Firewalk.

The fundraising event is taking place on October 16 at The Rock as a part of the Bury Light Night Festival.

Mr Green said: “When we were discussing which charity to support this year, Early Break was mentioned and it felt like a perfect fit.

"The messages that Early Break give to young people and their families  of harm minimisation, measured moderation or helping people to maintain abstinence from alcohol and other substances if they so choose is one that is a deep part of our company’s history.

"We thought it would be great to do something different and the Firewalk is a great way for us as a team to raise money for Early Break.

"Our trustees have agreed to match fund what we raise so we are hoping that we can make a healthy contribution to this great local charity."

Rhyse Cathcart, from Early Break, said: “We are really pleased to be supported by another Bury business with such a rich history and shared values.

"We are very excited about this event and the  response from people wishing to take part.

"This is a red hot event and places are going quickly so we are urging people to sign up if they want to take part as soon as possible.”

Healthy Investment originated in 1835 as a Friendly Society.

Friendly Societies predated the NHS and were the only form of welfare available, helping working people to insure themselves against ill health, sickness and hardship.
