A RADCLIFFE mum-of-two has thanked generous supporters who have helped her send hundreds of donations to refugees fleeing the conflict in Syria.

The Radcliffe Times reported earlier this month that Vedia Glover, of Overton Close, was organising collections of clothes, blankets and other items to send to families living in refugee camps.

Since then, she has been inundated with donations and has this week seen them shipped by global humanitarian charity, Ummah in Need, to Greece and Turkey.

The 42-year-old, who has two sons - Joshua, aged 13, and Jacob, aged seven - said: "Everything has gone really well and we have had a massive response to the appeal.

"Since it was covered in the paper, I have had loads of people coming to my house from all over the borough and there have been some really fantastic donations.

"Within a week, my garage was completely full of bags that were stacked to the ceiling, and those have all been shipped off in containers heading for the refugee camps."

The Keep Syria Warm campaign is continuing with its collection appeal throughout the winter and Ms Glover, who owns Lilli Oliver Cupcakes, is still organising donations herself.

She added: "These clothes and other items are things that people would think about donating to other charities anyway, and there are a lot of people out there who genuinely want to help. But the problem is that they don't always know how, and thankfully I have been able to get our message out and get people to respond.

"Everyone has seen what is happening out there on the TV and it's great that we have been able to give people an easy way of helping these people who are in desperate struggles.

"The collections are still going on throughout the winter and there will obviously be a need for lots of warm clothing and blankets to send out there.

"The response so far has been wonderful and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has got involved. Hopefully we can keep up the great work."

Bags of clothes, bedding, toys, or other items can be dropped off at 14 Overton Close, Radcliffe, M26 1UH. Supporters are asked to separate clothes into men's, women's, and children's if possible.

Cash donations can be made directly to Ummah in Need, account number 73800318, sort code 20-10-71.
