GENEROUS customers and staff at a Radcliffe waxing salon have done their bit to help the area's disadvantaged children.

During a week of fundraising in December, Strictly Waxing, in Stand Lane, raised £500 for local charity the Frost Foundation.

As part of their annual charitable collection, the salon offered half-price treatments for customers who bought a £10 raffle ticket.

Owner Jolene Challiner said: "We did really well to raise £500 in total over the week and that has all been donated to the Frost Foundation now.

"It's a local charity that will be helping children in Radcliffe, which was very important to me when we were deciding who to fundraise for this year. I've been told it could go towards helping victims of the floods, which obviously isn't what we expected when we started, but is very important given what has happened.

"We have done this every year for different charities, including Bury Hospice and the MS Society."

The aim of the charity is to support children and teenagers in the Greater Manchester area with specialised pieces of equipment to help them live their lives to the full.

The Frost Foundation's Wendy Veevers added: "The money will go towards one of the children that we will be supporting. We bought a special buggy for a little girl just before Christmas which cost just over £500, so it could be something similar to that.

"We gave out around 600 presents before Christmas to children living in crisis and with the extent of the flooding in the town we expect that there will be a lot of requests coming in to us in the next few weeks.

"Our remit is to support children who are in need of help, but we are open to any kind of idea that will help families."
