Residents in Radcliffe called on the help of the fire service after leaking water damaged a smoke alarm.
A fire crew from Whitefield attended a three-storey flat in Radcliffe New Road at around 9.30pm last night.
Water was flooding from the top flat down through the other properties below and into a smoke alarm on the ground floor, causing it fault.
It is believed that the flooding water was caused by a damaged waste pipe in the third floor flat and the buildings management had been informed.
The fire crew isolated the power supply to the alarm and made the scene safe.
