A NEW estate of 18 semi-detached homes is set to be built.

Bury Council has approved plans to construct the estate, to be known as Eton Mews, on land next to Eton Business Park in Bury Road, Radcliffe.

The cul-de-sac will transform the 4,400 square metre brownfield site, which has been vacant for several years after previously housing part of the Remploy business complex.

A planning statement from developers Southdale stated: "The development will be of a scale, density and character appropriate to the local area and, through high quality design and landscaping, will enhance the visual appeal of the locality.

"The design of the scheme including the scale and massing of the proposed dwellings, the use of landscaping and the location of car parking, will ensure that any impact on the adjacent countryside is minimised.

"Whilst the site is allocated for employment generating uses, it has been vacant now for at least five years. Furthermore, the proposals will not have an adverse impact on the Eton Business Park or its ability to continue to perform a productive employment, light industrial use.

"The redevelopment of this site will assist with the ongoing regeneration of Bury and Radcliffe."

The developers added that the estate will provide a boost to an "unsightly vacant plot, where the potential for antisocial behaviour such as fly tipping exists."

The estate will consist of six three-bedroom houses, 10 two-bedroom homes, and two four-bed properties.

Six neighbours objected to the plans, which were first received by the council's planning office in January 2015.

Gemma Madeley, of Bury Road, said: "My reasons for objection are noise pollution, privacy concerns, roadworks outside my home, obstruction to gain access to my home when building would commence, and concerns on the amount of debris on construction as my partner has asthma.

"All the construction work carried out will be right outside my home and when the road works will be put up, I will not have access to drive out of my driveway."
