PUPILS at a Radcliffe school marked the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare in style.

As part of Shakespeare week, youngsters at Millwood Primary Special School, in School Street, dressed as fairies, witches, kings and queens to represent the characters from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, and Richard III.

Pupils made bread for the wedding of Theseus and Hippolyta, created a soundscape for The Tempest, and learnt how to perform a Tudor dance.

Helen Chadwick, headteacher at the school, said: “Shakespeare can be clever, magical, scary, romantic and funny, and sometimes all at the same time - a bit like life.

“The children love performance arts so they have had a fantastic time learning about Shakespeare and his amazing characters.”

The week of activities ended with a food of love feast on Friday, April 29, complete with red rose biscuits.

Four pupils were filmed for CBBC's ‘How to be Epic at Shakespeare’ signing a quotation from Macbeth.
