TWO travellers brutally attacked a man in Radcliffe after he asked him to put his dog on a lead.

The man and his wife were walking their dog in Green Street, where travellers were staying earlier this week, at around 11.20pm on Tuesday night, when another dog ran out and attacked their pet.

He shouted for its owners to get their dog under control, but instead the two offenders punched him and then kicked him after he fell to the floor.

The victim suffered cuts and bruising from the incident, and his wife was unharmed.

Police are investigating, but have so far been unable to identify the attackers as the travellers have now moved on from the area.

PCSO Norman Taylor said: "A married couple were out walking their dog on Tuesday night, when another dog came from the travellers' site and started attacking their pet.

"The man shouted over to ask them to put the dog on a lead, but instead they came over and battered him.

"He thought they were coming over to put a lead on it, but they started kicking and punching him.

"He suffered a bruised face and ribs, but didn't want to be taken to hospital.

"They punched him and he fell to the floor, but he managed to get up and go home.

"The travellers have gone now, so we don't know who the offenders were.

"We believe it was two men in their 30s."

Anyone with information about the incident should call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
