A DRIVER ran away from a wrecked car after flipping it onto its roof in a high-speed crash.
The blue Renault Megane smashed into a wall in Ringley Road at about 8.15pm last night after reportedly losing control while travelling at high speeds.
The car had been travelling along Ringley Road towards its junction with Hulme Road when it crashed.
Local residents reported seeing the car driving at high speeds before it crashed.
Those commenting on social media also said they saw several men escape from the wreckage — which ended up near to The Wells House nursery — and run away.
Ringley resident Brad Savage was walking nearby when he heard the car crash.
He said: "I could hear the car skidding for quite a long time, so I think it must have been going really fast.
"Then I heard an almighty crash and ran to see what had happened.
"When I got there, whoever had been in the car had managed to escape and run-off.
"I don't know how they got out, the car was completely twisted and the street scene was complete carnage, with a flattened lampost and bits of car everywhere."
Police officers and the fire service were called to the scene.
No arrests have been made in connection with the crash so far.
Enquiries are still ongoing.
