SCONES and tea helped raise hundreds of pounds for the Radcliffe Flood Appeal.

The Radcliffe Townswomen’s Guild held their fundraising cream tea event last month, raising £443.

Speaking about the event, chairman Kathryn Taylor said: “What a great success the fundraising event was. I want to thank all friends and members of the guild who attended.

“I hope that the situation for those who had been affected by the Radcliffe flood has greatly improved and their lives were gradually getting back to normal.”

The guild have had a busy few months, including attending the national AGM in Bournemouth in June and the North Manchester bowling competition.

Next month, the group will be attending the national bowling competition in Preston and there will be three teams representing Radcliffe.

Another event that the guild got involved with was supporting Kelly Jones of Radcliffe as she cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End to raise money for her chosen charity’s Townswomen’s Guilds and Wish Upon A Star.

This year’s post card competition has been launched and the theme is sunrise or sunset, cards should be sent to the secretary before the November meeting.

The annual September holiday has been booked to St Anne’s and members are looking forward to the jaunt.

The guild’s 27th birthday party has been organised for September and the entertainment will be Bury Community Choir.

Cost to members is £1.50 and friends and guests can buy tickets for £7.

Mrs Taylor added: “This is an active and friendly guild and new members are welcome.”
