A THRILLSEEKER who suffered a cardiac arrest on a rollercoaster has launched an appeal to find the man who saved his life.

Thomas Ormerod, aged 25, was riding the adrenaline-pumping Infusion ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach with his girlfriend Charlotte Howell when he fell unconscious halfway through the ride.

When the rollercoaster, which reaches speeds of 80mph and used to be known as the “Traumatizer”, came to an end, a man dragged him off and started performing CPR on him before paramedics arrived.

The man disappeared and now Mr Ormerod is hoping to track him down to say a big thank you.

Mr Ormerod spent three weeks in hospital after the heart attack on June 26.

The quality assurance inspector, at Radcliffe skincare company Faith in Nature, said: “I do not really remember much but from what my partner has told me, we queued up for the ride, got on and about halfway round I went quiet.

“When Charlotte got off the ride I was unconscious. A guy pulled me from the ride and started to perform CPR before the first response team arrived.

“After that I woke up a day later in Blackpool Victoria Hospital.”

Mr Ormerod, who had been celebrating Charlotte’s 23rd birthday, said despite a family history of heart problems, he had never experienced any issues and had not been feeling unwell at the time.

“It was just an extraordinary occurrence,” he said. “They do not know exactly what caused it other than I had a cardiac arrest and it is something to do with my heart.

“For now they have implanted a defibrillator to make sure that if it does happen again, I will be OK.

“The chap that helped was just a member of the public waiting to get on the ride and I was lucky enough that he knew CPR. We have not found him yet, but I am hoping he will come forward.

“First I will thank him for saving my life and then I have few questions about what happened.

“Then hopefully we will have a nice chat.”

He said his girlfriend thought he was trying to be sick on the ride and did not realise what had happened until the end.

The former Haslingden High School pupil has issued a plea for information on Facebook in a post shared more than 6,000 times.

He said the man was “white, a big guy, well-built and had a red and black football or rugby top on”.

Mr Ormerod also praised the Pleasure Beach for being the only theme park in the UK that has trained NHS paramedics on site.

A spokesperson for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “We are delighted to hear that Mr Ormerod is making an excellent recovery.

“We were pleased to be able to assist Mr Ormerod when he took ill during his visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach.”

A North West Ambulance Spokeswoman said: “CPR was in progress before staff got there. We were called at 11.14am to near the promenade and we took a patient who had collapsed to Blackpool Victoria Hospital.”

Mr Ormerod has asked the man who helped him to get in touch via Facebook.
