COMMUNITY groups have been given hundreds of pounds worth of funding at an event to celebrate Radcliffe.

The day of free family fun was put on by Bury Council to promote the wide range of local services available in Radcliffe and to find out what local people think of the area.

Hundreds flocked to the #LoveRadcliffe event at Bolton Road Park to enjoy the festivities.

There was a children’s fun zone with face painting, arts and crafts plenty more free activities.

In addition to the fun activities there was a Dragon’s Den style competition called The Pitch, where local voluntary organisations fought it out for their chance of winning up to £1,000 in funding.

One of the projects that benefitted from £200 was the St Thomas and St John’s Church Civic Window Project.

They are trying to raise £7,000 to cover the costs of restoring and installing a window which is more than 80 years old.

Also winning funding at the event was Friendly Faces, a group that fights isolation, as well as Chapelfield Tenants and Residents’ Association and Little Britain Anglers.

Cllr Rishi Shori, leader of Bury Council, said he was delighted with the turnout at the fun day.

Cllr Shori said : “I’m really pleased that so many people decided to come along, get involved and enjoy the fun at both of our neighbourhood road shows in Radcliffe and Bury East. “

“The roadshows have given us a great opportunity to ask people what they think about their local community – and how we can work together to make it even better. I’d like to thank everyone for getting involved and sharing their views.”

Bury College, Six Town Housing, Transport for Greater Manchester, Greater Manchester Police and the Fire Service also supported the event and were on hand to provide residents with information about local services.

A similar event was also held recently in Bury at Openshaw Park, the idea behind the event is for the public to work with the council to create a better Radcliffe and Bury East.
