A TAKEAWAY in Radcliffe will represent fast food of the North West as it hopes to scoop a top national award at a ceremony in London.

Grilled Hotspot has stirred things up by beating competition from more established joints in Manchester city centre to earn the right to fly the flag for the region at the 2016 British Takeaway Awards.

The event, sponsored by fast food delivery website Just Eat, will be held in Covent Garden’s Savoy Hotel on December 5, when the most acclaimed names in the industry will come together to celebrate the success of Britain’s best independent takeaway businesses.

Over the past few months thousands of foodies in the North West have been voting online and via post for their favourite takeaway – and Grilled Hotspot emerged as one of the top five favourites.

The takeaway, which specialises in kebabs but also serves pizzas, burgers and other items, will compete for one of 13 regional awards on the night – hoping to scoop the prize of £5,000.

Ghulam Mustafa, manager of the family-owned business in Outwood Road, said: “I am really excited, we all are.

“We have worked so hard in the last two years since we opened to get the place up-and-running and then keep getting better.

“What makes us different, I believe, is the quality of the food and the good service we give people.

“Also we work very hard and the staff deserve this recognition, and of course my parents prayed for me and the restaurant.”

Adam Alcock, area manager for Just Eat in Manchester, said staff at the takeaway were very friendly and devoted to their work, and that they had a good chance of winning the award next month.

He added: “There are so many takeaways in Manchester city centre, for somewhere from little old Radcliffe to compete, and beat, them is no mean feat.

“They’re all great guys and theyr’e all buzzing about the trip to London, I’m delighted for them.”

Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat, said: “The British Takeaway Awards are all about recognising and rewarding the diversity and excellence of the nation’s takeaway industry.

“Making it to the top five best takeaway restaurants in the North West is a great achievement for Grilled Hotspot, as it means their customers think they are providing great food and excellent customer service.”
