A REMORSEFUL woman who made a swearing gesture to a police officer later called up the force to apologise.

A drunk woman in Radcliffe flicked a “V” sign to officers who had broken into her home after neighbours believed she might have died.

But the woman, who is thought to have woken up when officers burst through the door, had simply fallen asleep after drinking a few too many.

Officers were called to what they thought might have been a dead body in a house near Radcliffe town centre after distressed neighbours reported a woman motionless and lying face down on a bed.

PC Richard Garland, from GMP Bury, said no crime had been committed but officers, who had been concerned for the woman’s welfare, were just relieved she was all right and had not been offended by her behaviour.

“I think she was a little worse for wear, and we don’t take things like that too personally,” he said.

“It was nice that she called up to apologise and the officer who she made the sign to was quite touched I think.

“It’s just a shame we had to break the door in, but we were doing what we are supposed to do in a situation like that.”
