TWO drop-in sessions are being held next week to discuss plans to prevent future flooding in Radcliffe and Redvales.

The Environment Agency and Bury Council are inviting residents to find out more about their plans for a new flood defence scheme in the area.

Officers from both authorities will be on hand to answer questions from flood victims about how to avoid a repeat of the Boxing Day 2015 disaster.

One meeting is being held at the Radcliffe Parish Church of St Mary’s, in Church Green, from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday, January 19.

There will also be a session at Radcliffe Road Baptist Church, in Warth, between 4pm and 7pm on Tuesday, January 17.

The Environment Agency is currently in the process of developing a new defence scheme for the south of the Bury borough, which is expected to cost between £12 million and £15 million.

Prior to the 2015 disaster, plans were in place for a £9 million flood defence scheme but had to be redesigned in response to the unprecedented catastrophe.

Bury Council has been left outraged by the Government’s failure to pay the £2.6 million it promised to fund repairs to the local infrastructure damaged in the floods.
