POLICE are calling on residents in Radcliffe to report any sightings of small sized gas canisters after a number of them have been found dumped in the past week.
The two inch sized canisters are regularly filled with nitrous oxide which is commonly known as laughing gas due to its euphoric effects.
Radcliffe East police sergeant Mark Livesey was alerted after giving a safety presentation at Gorsfield Primary School on Tuesday when a number of children told him they recognised the canisters.
The safety presentation highlighted the dangers of nitrous oxide canisters and what to do if the children found them.
One child said they had seen numerous empty canisters in Redbank playing fields, where Radcliffe Junior’s football club play their home matches and after inspection, 25 empty canisters were found in the playing field.
Sergeant Mark Livesey said: “If small gas canisters or needles of any kind are discovered they should contact police or the council so that they can be immediately removed.”
