A SIX-YEAR OLD who had her hair chopped off for charity has raised almost £700.

Ellie Whittles, who attends St. Andrews Primary School in Radcliffe, decided she wanted to donate her locks to The Little Princess Trust after seeing an advert on television.

The Trust, which provides real hair wigs to boys and girls across the UK that have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment, only allows donations of hair over 30cm in length to meet regulations.

Ellie, determined to persevere, grew her hair for over a year until finally having 35cm of it chopped off three weeks ago.

Her mother, Leanne Partington, 27, who lives in Meadowcroft, said: “My daughter has had quite long hair for a while.

“And after seeing an advert on television about donating her hair to people less fortunate she asked if she could do it.

“She said she wanted her hair to make a child happy by making it into a wig so we decided to try and raise some money whilst we were doing it.

Mother and daughter spread the word to friends and family and set up a JustGiving page to send to The Princess Trust, raising £697.65 overall.

She had 35cm cut off overall by a hairdresser friend at L’Salon in Radcliffe who then styled it into a bob.

Mrs Partington said: “We are so proud of her act of kindness at such a young age.

“From when she was a baby she couldn’t actually grow her hair for the first few years so when she finally did have some hair,

“I always told her that she could never have it short again.

“But how could I refuse this time around as she was doing it for such a good cause.

Ellie has said she wants to do it all over again for another little girl when her hair grows back.
