CARNIVAL lovers will take to Red Bank Field this weekend as one of the town’s greatest traditions gets underway.

With the 52nd annual Radcliffe Carnival just days away, people are being urged to take to the streets and show their support.

Residents can still offer their services in several ways, including volunteering as parade marshals, field organisers, programme sellers, leaflet distributors or sound technicians.

Carnival chairman, Andrew Clarkson, said: “We want to make this year’s event one to remember so I encourage everyone to get involved if they haven’t already.”

Mr Clarkson added that he wants to see as many people as possible joining in this year’s theme which is the Animal Kingdom.

Saturday’s parade will start at 2pm with Radcliffe Brass Band taking the lead as per tradition.

On the Sunday, a car boot will be held from 8am to 1pm which is charged at £10 per car and £15 for a van, followed by a car Raleigh.

Despite having to cut back on the budget for last year’s event after going all out for the 50th anniversary carnival, a great time was had by all and the hope is for another fantastic occasion this time around in 2017.

Children and young person’s charity Early Break are also appealing to the public to donate any unwanted, good quality teddy bears before the weekend.

The Radcliffe based charity use the teddies to raise money for their wellbeing fund and will be hosting a teddy bear tombola at the carnival.

To donate people can contact Jacqui Selby on 0161 723 3880 or email info@earlybreak.co.uk
