A 24-hour swim in response to the Manchester Arena attack will be held at Radcliffe Leisure Centre.

John Atkinson, from Radcliffe, who died in the tragedy last week, was a member and regular visitor at the leisure centre and staff are holding the swim in honour of him.

A fundraising event will take place on June 11 which will include children’s activities, family-fun sessions and swimming.

Elizabeth Beck, one of the staff members who is helping to organise the event, said: “In order for this to be a success, we need the help from the local community and people of Bury.”

All of the proceeds will be collected and donated to both the British Red Cross and the welovemcr charity.

The swim will start at 10:30am on the Sunday and it will run through until the Monday morning.

The event can be found on Facebook or Twitter by searching ‘Radcliffe Leisure Centre’.

The leisure centre is located in Spring Lane, Radcliffe.
