A RADCLIFFE Primary School is rejoicing after keeping its Ofsted rating after a recent inspection.

Chapelfield Primary School, based in Clough Street, remains ‘good’ in all aspects after the visit on June 8 by Jean Robinson.

The report said that the leadership team has maintained the good quality of education since the last inspection.

It said: “You all work together effectively on key improvement priorities. This consistency of approach is a strength of the school.

“The recent change in leadership has been seamless, with other members of staff stepping up to take on new roles.

“The development in pupils’ handwriting and the marked improvement in reading over the last year is impressive and demonstrates that the school has the capacity to improve further.”

The school was awarded the same rating at a previous inspection in September 2013, although it was told that improvements needed to be made in providing opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of the world.

The new report stated that the school has acted on this by developing the curriculum to provide pupils with these opportunities.

The previous report also asked the school to give pupils more opportunities to work unaided and have time to reflect on their work.

It was noted that this time around a marked improvement had been made.

The report said: “During visits to classrooms, I saw teachers creating opportunities for pupils to work alone as well as in pairs and in small groups.”

The new report also stated that safeguarding was effective.

It said: “Effective communication systems ensure that staff are kept up to date with current regulations and any concerns about pupils are addressed quickly.”

It added that pupils have made strong progress in reading, writing and mathematics, exceeding national expectations.

The school has been told to build on recent improvements so that more children can achieve a good level of development.

Headteacher at Chapelfield Primary School, Maggie Howarth, said: “ I am really pleased that the relentless hard work of the staff and pupils at Chapelfield has been recognised and that we remain a good school.”
