The company received the award for its performance in the export field – last year more than 70 per cent of its production went overseas.

Presenting the award to Mr Seward, Lord Derby said he hoped it would be and encouragement to the firm to further enhance their achievements.

Mr Seward is one of the very few people to have received the award on two occasions – last year he received it as chairman of a sister company of Dobson’s Platt Bros Ltd.

RESTRICTIONS on capital expenditure may delay further redevelopment of Radcliffe town centre.

Plans for comprehensive development of the central part of the town were given the go-ahead by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government in May this year, but the proposals have since been omitted from the Government’s capital investment programme for town centre schemes.

Officials of Radcliffe Council have put strong pressure on the Ministry to give loan sanction for the redevelopment and the MP for Bury and Radcliffe, Mr David Ensor has also corresponded with the Ministry on the Council’s behalf.

So far their efforts have been unsuccessful, but the Ministry has stated that further town centre schemes will be added to the programme later in the financial year.
