BUSINESSMAN Charles Burns is hoping to impress Sir Alan Sugar on the new TV series of The Apprentice.

Charles is one of 18 new candidates to face the formidable business leader in the BBC show starting next week.

The 24-year-old, originally from Prestwich but who now lives in Radcliffe, helps run a management consultancy, a watch trading company and a comparison website.

He believes his best qualities are his passion, drive and determination but admits he can talk too much and doesn’t always listen and that as long as it is within the rules, he will stop at nothing to win.

He said: “When life throws you lemons, make and sell lemonade for a healthy profit.”

After forming Charles Burns Watches and Jewellery Ltd, which is based at Bankside Place, in Radcliffe, he also came back to help the family jewellery business, Burns Jewellers and says that his business plan for Sir Alan may be one that he will enjoy.

He said: “I think that my business plan is one that Sir Alan will be able to relate to.

“Obviously I cannot say too much but it is well known that he is a fan of timepieces and is never seen without a watch on.”

Recently married to wife Alyx, Charles added that viewers can expect him to have a very measured approach to the process.

He said: “I don’t really like to play games and get involved with that side of it all but I will be approaching everything in a logical way and be a straight shooter.”

Michaela Wain, aged 33, from Bolton, has also been selected as a candidate on the programme.

The first episode will air on BBC1 next Wednesday at 9pm.
