A TOP takeaway in Radcliffe just missed out on the number one spot at a national food awards gala.

Grilled Hotspot secured a place as one of the north west’s five finalists at the start-studded British Takeaway Awards 2017, hosted by Liverpudlian comic John Bishop.

Humad Mustafa, the owner of the Outwood Road takeaway travelled to London’s Savoy Hotel to attend the annual bash, which welcomed famous faces such as model Kelly Brook, Countdown mathematician Rachel Riley and TV chef Ainsley Harriott.

He said: “Unfortunately, we didn’t win our region but it was still a big achievement to come in the top five in the north west in association with Just Eat.

“It was a big achievement to come that far, not many people can say they have done that, especially considering the number of Just Eat restaurants in the north west. Top five is pretty impressive.

“It just shows hard work pays off.

“Even if we didn’t win we’re happy to be a part of it”

The finalists were decided by the public from among thousands of Just East registered businesses before secret judging took place to decide the winners.

Mr Mustafa, aged 26, from Bury, thanked all of his customers who had helped him and his staff go so far in the competition.

He vowed the quality of the food and service at Grilled Hotspot would remain the same as they head into 2018.

The award for Best Takeaway in the North West went to Manchester shop, Brunch, which took home the accolade for the third time.

Sharon Carline, founder of Brunch said: “It’s a bit of a shock to win for a third time, it feels pretty fantastic and we’re so overwhelmed.

“We would like to thank our local community and all the support they given us year on year, and we’re so excited for 2018.”
