A COMMUNITY group is appealing for help in its mission to run a library saved from closure.

Friends of Dumers Lane Community Centre and Library have been successful in their bid to Bury Council to run the library in Radcliffe.

Now, the group is appealing for volunteers and help to raise £2,500 to run the site.

Bury Council shut down the library to save £1.4million, as part of a wider programme of closures across the borough.

The decision left members of community groups, including an over 50s group, writers’ club and young people attending after-school clubs without a base. But it is hoped the successful business plan of library users and supporters will seal the building’s future.

So far a total of eight people have come forward to volunteer.

Friends of Dumers Lane are seeking help with legal advice as they liaise with Bury Council about the terms of a five-year lease.
