PUPILS are celebrating the arrival of a special delivery from Kensington Palace.

A royal letter came in response to a scrapbook which St John’s Church of England Primary School had created as a gift to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their engagement.

Every child at the Radcliffe school wrote a message of congratulations and many produced drawings for the scrapbook, which was sent to the palace.

Acting head teacher Anna Withey said: “The reply couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. The pupils had just gone into assembly when the post arrived so we were able to tell them the exciting news.

“The whole idea for the scrapbook was generated by the pupils.

“There was a real buzz around the school when the engagement was announced in November last year.”

Clarence House released a statement via Twitter on Monday, November 27, announcing that Prince Harry was engaged to American actress Miss Markle.

Their wedding is due to take place on May 18, at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

It was Year 4 pupil Casey Robinson who came up with the idea to create a scrapbook for the couple.

The nine-year-old said: “Harry looks at her with love.”

Year 5 pupil Beth Mihell, aged 10, singlehandedly wrote a prayer for the couple, which was inserted into the scrapbook.

It read: “Dear God, please make us a world where from fear we don’t run, make us a word with happiness and fun.

“Give us a world where it’s safe to play, to have fun and enjoy every minute of the day.

“One last thing, I must ask of you please, give us a world without war, but with peace.”

St John’s had been learning about love as one of the school’s core values.

Miss Withey said: “It’s really important in this day and age that our children continue to learn about love.

“Pupils in Years 3 to 5 drew pictures of the couple for the book which were absolutely beautiful.

“Others wrote messages of congratulations. One pupil wrote ‘We hope they stay happy forever. It is really important to show love.’”
