THE son of ex-Coronation Street star Des Barnes is taking centre stage in the boxing ring.
In his first official fight, 14-year-old Alfie Middlemiss overwhelmed the audience with his straight punches to achieve a "tremendous win."
The 14-year-old is the son of actor Philip Middlemiss who played bookie Des Barnes in ITV's Coronation Street in the 1990s.
Alfie joined Radcliffe Community Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) at the end of summer last year and has now been selected to train alongside the adult team.
Coach Barry Smart said: "Alfie is a natural fighter. He has only been doing this for 10 months. You would think he had been boxing for a few years.
"He just gets down to it and trains hard. He lives it, breathes it.
"He is going places."
Alfie's first fight against opponent Adam Akram took place at the Audley Centre in Blackburn over the Easter weekend.
The pair went head to head in the 55kg weight division.
Mr Smart said: "In the first round it was obvious Alfie was the much stronger boy and was overwhelming him with his straight punches.
"When the bell went, Alfie did exactly what I'd asked him to do."
His boxing success is the catalyst for Alfie to begin fighting in competitions across the North West and further afield.
Radcliffe Community ABC provides amateur boxing classes on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at Dynamics Gym, in Radcliffe.
