CHINESE dignitaries visited a Radcliffe care home to learn from its innovative approach to looking after older people.

A delegation of dignitaries from Hubei Province, which has an ageing domestic population, were taken on a tour of Rose Court Care Home as part of a visit to Manchester.

They were invited by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to celebrate the relationship between Manchester and its sister city Wuhan — the capital of Hubei, located north of Dongting Lake in central China.

The visiting party, which included the deputy director of the standing committee of Hubei Provincial People's Congress, Mr Wang Jianming, visited Rose Court on Sunday, April 15.

Home manager Karen Davies said: "It was a great honour to be able to welcome our distinguished guests from China to Rose Court, and I would like to thank them for taking the time to learn about the work we do to deliver the very highest quality care to residents.

"I hope they found the visit useful, and that they will be able to bring some of our practices back with them to Hubei province."

Ms Davies took the visitors on a guided tour of the home in Water Street and showed them its nursing training techniques.

Staff had taken part in the Department of Health's pilot Teaching Care Home scheme in 2016, which aimed to inspire the sector with new training and skills.

The home, which is run by HC-One, has achieved a Good overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, with an Outstanding in the well-led category.

Before the end of the visit, the two parties exchanged gifts: the Rose Court team presented their visitors with a hamper of food and drink produced locally, and in return the delegates presented Ms Davies with a set of decorative chopsticks.

Liz Whyte, HC-One managing director, said: "I would like to extend HC-One's thanks to Mr Wang Jianming and the rest of the delegation from Hubei Province for coming to Rose Court to learn more about the home’s successes as a Teaching Care Home.

"At HC-One we pride ourselves on thinking of new and creative ways to deliver the kindest and very best care for residents, and it is a privilege to be able to share our expertise with visitors from across the globe."
