A FRUSTRATED resident has begun using chalk to circle dog fouling across Ainsworth in an attempt to raise awareness.

The resident, who does not wish to be named, used chalk to write the message: "Watch your feet, dirty humans walk this street" in Ainsworth Hall Road.

They were one of several individuals to raise the issue of dog littering with Councillor Jamie Walker, who represents Radcliffe North on Bury Council.

In response, Cllr Walker is preparing to launch a campaign this summer to target areas that have become a hot spot for "disgusting" dog mess.

Dog owners have been urged to clean up after their pets.

Cllr Walker said: "Ainsworth is a lovely village but I have received a number of complaints now from residents about people not picking up after their dogs.

"One resident has taken to chalking the pavement to show other residents and perpetrators just how disgusting it is.

"Not only is it disgusting but it can have serious health consequences if children or adults come in to contact with it.

"Dogs are great and it is not their fault; it is owners who have the responsibility.

"That’s why I am launching a campaign across this summer aimed at trying to tackle dog fouling.

"There is only so much the council and we as councillors can do. Dog owners really do need to take responsibility, bag it and bin it."

Letters will be send to residents to raise awareness of the problem and calling for them to report offenders.

Large signs are also due to be installed on lampposts and other visible areas to warn residents about the health risks associated with dog fouling.
