STAFF at the St John Ambulance unit in Radcliffe are appealing for help to update and renovate their tired looking building.

A new kitchen, flooring and fresh lick of paint are among the list of things to be done at the site in Sion Street, which is one of the oldest St John Ambulance units in the country.

Residents and businesses are asked to help with the renovation by volunteering their time or helping to cover the cost of the work.

Helen Gilbertson, area manager for St John Ambulance said: "We have a thriving unit in Radcliffe which is home to a group of young people training to be the first aiders of tomorrow and a growing group of adult volunteers.

"Our building has become a little tired and we could really use a hand in giving it a make over.

"We desperately need a new kitchen but any donations of paint, vinyl flooring, decorating equipment and so on would be really appreciated."

St John Ambulance volunteers provide first aid in the community, keeping people safe at events and responding to 999 calls alongside the NHS.

There has been a unit in Radcliffe for more than 100 years.
