A NEWLY-FORMED committee hopes to move forward with plans for an after-school club at a Radcliffe community hub.

Friends of Dumers Lane Community Centre, who took over the former library, would like to run sessions for young people in order to build their confidence and improve their social and computer skills.

The group will bid for £1,500 funding at the upcoming Pitch event in Radcliffe and have appealed to residents to give them their vote.

Secretary Nicole Haydock said: "The aim of the hub is to encourage young people of school age to take part in activities, while learning about team-building, in a supportive and friendly environment.

"We would be helping them with their homework, and running a series of games.

"Several other projects are going forward for funding. It is a competitive game and we really need support."

The parent and volunteer-led after-school club would be suitable for five to 16-year-olds.

The Bury Council-run Pitch event will take place at 10am on Saturday, June 16, at Radcliffe United Reformed Church.

Friends of Dumers Lane Community Centre need to raise a minimum of £3,000 per year to meet the basic cost of running the centre, and will need to hold various fundraising activities throughout the five-year terms of its lease.
