STRICTLY Come Dancing star Lisa Riley is urging people to take part in a Race for Life event to raise money and help beat cancer.

The former Emmerdale actress, from Tottington, joined in a Cancer Slam dance in London to kick start Cancer Research UK’s summer campaign.

The Cancer Slam dance will also be performed by thousands of women as part of a warm-up at Race for Life events this summer.

Heaton Park will be the venue for a Race for Life event on June 12 and 13.

The 37-year-old said: “I know the devastating impact cancer can have on families like mine. I lost my mum to cancer and that’s why I’m encouraging women of all ages in the North West to take part in Race for Life as the best way of fighting back against this terrible disease. It doesn’t matter how fit or fast you are. Taking part and raising money for life-saving research is what counts. So come on ladies, sign up to day.”
