TWO kind-hearted Tottington sisters are having their long locks cut — so it can be used to make wigs for children who have lost their hair while being treated for cancer.

Izzy and Eliana Ralph have been growing their hair for the past 18 months in order to make the kind donation.

The hair cut will raise funds for the Little Princess Trust, which provides real hair wigs free of charge to children who have lost their hair in the process of undergoing treatment such as chemotherapy.

A fundraising page has already collected more than £600 in donations, beating their original target of £150.

Father Alastair, said the gesture came after a chance encounter: "It all started off when Eliana was in Bury with my wife, Liz, and she saw another child who had no hair, because of the cancer treatment.

"So she asked her mum about it, and she explained, and Eliana then asked if she could give some of her hair to help.

"We did some research, and that was when we came across the charity. That was about 18 months ago now, and now it is at the right length to be cut.

"It will be quite a substantial cut from now, it will be behind the ears after."

The sisters were due to have their flowing locks cut yesterday in Stubbins, and donations have continued to pour in from far and wide.

Alastair, of Burgundy Drive, said he was very proud of his children's selfless act.

He said: "It is awesome what they are doing. They are both very thoughtful and I am very proud of them."

Donations have been received from classmates and staff at Tottington High School, where 11-year-old Izzy attends, as well as from Old Hall Primary School, where five-year-old Eliana studies, as well as from further afield.

Alistair added: "We had a donation from a school friend of mine, who now lives in America, so it just shows how things like this spread."
