A 'GLAMOROUS' Hawkshaw woman celebrated her 100th birthday with a party and a visit from the Mayor.
Mary Smolcic, who lives in the Abbeywood care home in Tottington, celebrated the special milestone with afternoon tea in the company of family and friends, as well as the obligatory birthday message from the Queen.
Mary was originally born in Royton, Oldham, and left school at the age of 14, gaining a job at a cotton factory, an industry which she worked in all her life.
During her marriage she had two daughters, one of whom she lived with in Hawkshaw before moving into the care home in 2013, and now has three grandchildren, Katie, Jack and Ben.
Staff at the care home said that Mary, who was widowed in 1990, still enjoys a glass of whiskey before bed and likes to take care of her appearance.
Stacey Johnson, deputy manager of the care home, said: "She has never been a typical old lady, she has really nice long hair which she ties back into a bun.
"She is not your typical old lady with a perm, she is still glamorous."
