MOST people can only dream of attending a garden party with the Queen – but girl guide Anna Lowthian is due to live that dream today. (May 28)

The 18-year-old, of Hawkshaw, has been chosen to represent Girl Guiding Lancashire South East at the Queen’s Garden Party at Buckingham Palace.

Only 12 senior section members of the Girl Guides were chosen to attend the party.

The former Woodhey High School pupil emailed a paragraph about her involvement in guiding to Lancashire South East guiding, before receiving the news a couple of weeks later that she had been selected to attend the party.

Anna is currently training to become an adult leader at her Guide pack, 10th Ramsbottom Guides – which she has never left.

She has been involved with Girlguiding since joining 1st Ramsbottom Rainbows at the age of five, moving onto brownies, guides and now the 1st Tottington Senior Section Rangers.

“I have really enjoyed the new skills I learnt since joining guiding, such as skiing and how to light a fire,” said Anna.

“I have enjoyed the holidays which I have been on to Waddow Hall with brownies and guides and have made so many friends who I would never have met if I was not involved in guiding.

Anna’s responsibilities as an adult leader-in-training involve running different activities and organising games in the run-up to her leadership qualification.

“I cannot wait until the Queen's garden party and although I am quite nervous about going, it’s such a great opportunity for me,” added Anna.

Her mum, Philomena Lowthian said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Anna and we are so pleased that she will be representing Holcombe and Tottington district as nothing like this has ever happened before.”
