A SCHOOL's bid to replace laptops and iPads stolen during a raid has been given a helping hand from business leaders.

Peel Brow Primary is aiming to raise £10,000 so the equipment can be purchased again, as a fault with the security alarm meant the school’s insurance did not cover all its losses.

But Ramsbottom Business Group has come to the aid of the school's plight by making a contribution of £1,000 to boost the fundraising efforts of its parent teachers' association (PTA), along with parents and members of staff.

PTA member Charlotte Greenwood, whose daughter attends the Fir Street school, approached Ramsbottom Business Group for help.

After speaking to group chairman Gregg Fletcher, it was agreed that he would raise the issue with members at their full meeting on May 18.

Cllr Rob Hodkinson, treasurer of the group, said: “Ramsbottom Business Group, which has supported and worked with many charities and community based groups, wanted to help the PTA to replace this much needed equipment.

“I am pleased to say that members unanimously agreed to donate £1,000 towards their fund.

“We wish the school every success reaching their target of £10,000.”

Headteacher Danny Mellor said: “It came as a really pleasant surprise to receive the cheque for £1,000.

“It is fantastic to see the whole community, not just the school, come together in these difficult times.

“We have set a challenging target of £10,000 and this puts us well on our way.

“We have many events planned in the future and we hope to achieve it soon."

He added: “Thank you very much to everyone at the business group for helping us, we are so grateful.”
