AN MP has opened a new specialist dementia unit at Ramsbottom's Lavender Hills Care Home.

Jake Berry, who represents the Rossendale and Darwen constituency, joined residents, staff and family members at the ceremony which took place at the home in Stubbins Vale Road.

Lavender Hills said its state-of-the-art, seven-bed Porritt Unit will provide the highest standards of care for people living with dementia.

The new unit is situated within the main building and each of the seven shower ensuite rooms have been specifically designed to a five-star standard. The residents will also benefit from a dedicated lounge, dining area and kitchenette, many of which enjoy views across the 12-acre grounds and the Rossendale Valley.

Manager Helen Inman said: "The opening of the Porritt Unit was an important moment for Lavender Hills as a whole. As a residential care home with an excellent reputation, we are pleased to be able to provide care for people with dementia, as well as an effective care pathway for our existing residents.”

The Porritt Unit is so called after the influential Porritt family who built the magnificent home which now occupies Lavender Hills more than 160 years ago.
