TEACHERS at Peel Brow Primary school left the comfort of the classroom to tackle some barriers in Burrs Country Park.

They were joined by governors and members of the parent teacher association (PTA) from the Ramsbottom school who turned into muddy marvels to take on a 5K obstacle course.

The Muddy Maniacs event on June 14 saw competitors having to fight through more than 10 obstacles before reaching the finish line.

A mix of woodland trails, man-made obstacles and natural features such as cargo nets, a river crossing, water slide, and rope climb were part of the demanding course.

Headteacher Mr Danny Mellor said: “It was meant to be a stroll in the park on a quiet Sunday morning. It was far more than that.

“Still, it was great fun and I really enjoyed it, especially the water slide. It was also really good to see spectators from school coming and supporting the team.”

The school, in Fir Street, is currently raising money to replace a number of stolen laptops and iPads and to cover costs following a flood in April.

Co-chairman of governors, Wendy Craven, who took part in the race, said: “The Peel Brow team really helped each other out. We cheered each other along and even though it was tiring it was lots of fun.

“The PTA, school and governors are working closely to help the school through these difficult times. The school has already been invigorated - it's onwards and upwards.”

Brothers Oscar and Maxwell Price, pupils at Peel Brow, also wanted to help raise money towards the school’s target of £10,000 following the burglary and a recent flood.

Oscar, aged eight, and six-year-old Maxwell took on a fishing challenge and collected sponsors before catching 65 fish between them in one day and raising £238 for the school.
