A bake-off contest was a piece of cake for two sisters.

Holly and Erin Jackson were amongst more than a thousand foodies who were attracted to Ramsbottom’s Cake Festival, which was being held for the second year.

The event was adorned with a wide variety of cakes, cupcakes and tarts, with stalls dotted around Church Gardens, in Bridge Street, for visitors to peruse

St Paul’s Church hosted the judging of the Bake Off competition where Erin, aged six, won the junior section, while Holly, aged 23, provided the icing on the cake by winning the adult section.

Erin, who attends Summerseat Methodist Primary School, had entered the contest last year, but this time her chocolate alien cake creation won over the judges' taste buds. Holly won the adult competition with a peacock sponge cake.

Erin said: “I never expected to win the competition but I am really happy and have started to think about what I can do for next year.”

Holly, who works at clothes store Next in Bury, said: “I was over the moon to win and never expected it especially because the other cakes were stunning.”

Mum Karen Jackson added: “I’m very proud of both girls and they worked hard on their cakes.”
