CHURCHGOERS in Ramsbottom turned back the clocks for an exhibition and raised more than £600 for their parish.

St Paul's Church, in Bridge Street, held the exhibition exploring the last 50 years in the parish, with visitors flocking to see vestments, wedding dresses, rose queen costumes, christening robes, photos and other mementos.

The exhibition was the brainchild of Joyce Wild, who was supported by other parishioners to help organise the event over several weeks.

“It went very well, and was an excellent weekend. We’re really happy with it,” said Mrs Wild.

“We raised just over £600 and are so pleased with the wonderful comments we received.

“Some people travelled from Lymm and Southport for it.”

A collection of footage from the Whit Walk event in Bury, taken each year between 1960 and 1970, played throughout the July 17 to 19 event.

Mrs Wild added: “The video footage really made the weekend. Some people watched it over three or four times, and it brought it all together.

“A massive thanks go to our team of organisers, Alma Sanders, Shirley Rothwell, June Isherwood, Marcia Fletcher and Les Norris.

“The feedback was lovely and now we’re looking forward to celebrating the church’s 175th anniversary next year.”
