FAMILIES spun a yarn by flocking to a Ramsbottom park.

Friends of Nuttall Park organised a Yarnbombing event on Saturday as part of the Love Parks Week.

Organisers held numerous craft and sport activities throughout the week to encourage more families and local people to visit the park.

The yarnbombing festival was brought to the park by Summertwine, a community group who spent weeks knitting and crocheting in the lead-up to the event.

Gwenda Newton, chairman of Friends of Nuttall Park, said: “It was an absolutely fantastic week celebrating the park.

“We had a wonderful day on Saturday with around 50 visitors to see the yarnbombed creations – the yarnbombed a bike and even a rocking chair.

“It was a shame that it rained because if we had had a beautiful day then I imagine a lot more people would have come down.

“The week has definitely attracted lots more visitors. Children made a bug hotel on Monday and we saw more than 100 people in the park that day.

She added: "We couldn't have made the week happen without the help of our wonderful volunteers.

"All the money we raised will go straight back into the park."

People enjoyed playing on a new boules pitch which was built by the Friends of Nuttall Park and guests were kept entertained with live music, children’s activities and the tea room.
