A RAMSBOTTOM brewery is toasting the success of its first year in business with a new ale.

Brewsmith Beer is producing a special beer, Gyle 50, a five per cent pale ale made with some of their favourite hops.

James Smith, head brewer and founder said: “We felt we should mark the occasion.

“It’s been hard work getting the business off the ground, and to make it to Gyle 50, and a whole year of brewing is a big thing for us.”

Founded in 2014 by James, Jennifer and Ted Smith, the company is a family-run 10 barrel microbrewery based in Stubbins.

They started with a core range of five beers and, as the year has progressed, have created an interesting mix of quality ales based on traditional British beer styles.

“Some of the new beers are seasonal and specials, but some have sold so well we will keep brewing them as long as the demand is there,” added Jennifer.

“The Gyle 50 is definitely a one-off special though.”

The brewery supplies a range of local pubs and bars including XLII Ramsbottom, The Hare and Hounds in Holcombe Brook, The Trackside and Buffer Stops on the East Lancashire Railway, along with beer festivals and events.

Jennifer said: “We have seen the business change so much even within a year. Expanding from cask ales only to now bottling our beers and running brewery tours."

Brewery tours for over-18s are next set to take place on September 25 and 26.
